Let’s begin by creating your triggered email campaign. This will be a campaign that gets sent automatically when a user is added to your Double Opt-In contact list. The purpose of the email is to ask them to confirm their subscription by clicking on a link. After they have clicked on the link, they will be taken to landing page which can thank them for subscribing and perhaps can contain a promo-code for a discount on their next stay if you are incentivizing the signup. Instructions for setting up your landing page is at the bottom of this article.
When you create a campaign, select the campaign type called “Double Opt-in (Contact List)” under the “Automated” section.
When you get to the design page, you can use a saved template or create a campaign from scratch. It is recommended that you include a link to your privacy policy in your triggered email in addition to your website sign up form (if you are utilizing a form on your web page). This privacy policy should also note that the user's IP address as well as user agent string will be captured when they confirm their subscription.
Once you have your content created, you need to include an obvious link so that the recipient knows what action they have to take. A call-to-action button or image link with a message of “click here to confirm” or something similar should be used. To enable this link, navigate to the Content editior module and select the "Open Website" button under the Action header. Then select “Double Opt-In” from the drop down panel.
You’ll notice that there are no options for segmentation and scheduling as this is not necessary for these triggered emails. These emails will go out automatically to each email address that gets added to these Double Opt In Contact Lists.
When you get to the Review page, you’ll see that it looks slightly different. Instead of a segment, you’ll see a drop down menu where you can select a contact list that has the double opt-in option enabled. If you don’t have a double opt-in contact list created already, you can click on “Save” and then exit so that you can create your Contact List.
Navigate to your Contact List page (under Guest & Segments Tab) and select a contact list you want to use for your Double Opt-In contact list or create a new contact list from scratch. Once you have a contact list you want to use, click on "Actions" to display a menu. Click on "Enable Double Opt-In."
A popup window will display and you can then select your Double Opt In Campaign from the list. Once you have selected it, click on Save.
Navigate back to your saved campaign (it will be saved under the Automated Campaigns Tab) and look at the Review page. You’ll see that your Double Opt-In enabled contact list has been chosen. Congratulations, your Double Opt-In contact list is live!
