If you use UTM tracking with an analytics tool like Google Analytics on your brand website, you can add tracking to your Revinate email marketing campaigns to understand how the clicks from your email campaigns drive all the way to the bookings/reservations on your website.
For more information on how to set up Google Analytics tracking manually, take a look at the following support pages from Google
Existing Revinate help desk article on UTM tracking
Once you've added your UTM tracking code and sent your campaign, you'll be able to view the campaign stats in your Google Analytics account.
What it UTM
UTMs or Urchin Tracking Module parameters are five variants of URL parameters used by marketers to track the effectiveness of online marketing campaigns across traffic sources and publishing media
The 5 parameters are
- Source
- Medium
- Campaign
- Term
- Content
The benefit of Auto UTM Link feature:
Auto UTM Link feature will automatically generate and auto-append to the link of the campaign, allowing tracking of the traffic generated from each email campaign.
How to enable Auto UTM Tracking
-
Once this feature is enabled for your account, you will be able to view an additional “CAMPAIGN TRACKING” toggle button under the “SETTINGS” section of the campaign flow.
-
Turn on “CAMPAIGNS TRACKING” under the “SETTINGS” section, and you will now be able to add “UTM Campaign Name” which will automatically get updated to the URL (you can view the same under this section). In the example below:
We created a campaign tracking tag “Labour Day Send”, which will add the following to all of your urls-
?utm_source=revinate&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Labour%20Day%20Send-[Campaign ID]
A few things to keep in mind when using Auto-UTM Tracking:
-
As seen above in the example, all links will have the UTM tracking automatically added. The UTM will not be visible in the editor, but will see a placeholder in test/preview emails and the actual UTM parameters on the scheduled email.
-
Links and merge tags associated with Revinate.com such as - privacy policy, guest preferences, upsells, unsubscribe, etc will not have UTM tracking.
-
Test emails will not show the UTM link to avoid any incorrect attribution / links. However, links will have the below:
- You can still add a manual UTM (on top of the auto) if you need to track something separately.
?utm_tracking_params_will_go_here
-
A campaign ID is added to the end of the UTM campaign name to make sure names are unique. In the example above: ?utm_source=revinate&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Labour%20Day%20Send-[Campaign ID]
-
Existing UTM links in automated or old campaigns will not be replaced by the auto utm link tracking.
